The bird looks surprised and curious. Wondering what just happened. Was it a bomb going off? This beautiful little bird (a banded pitta, for those who are interested) is seen against a backdrop of the aftermath of the explosion in the port of Beirut in the summer of 2020. The granary is still standing but the wheat is lost. Symbolic, not only for the trauma that just happened but also for a nation that has rarely truly been at peace during the past century.
