Does it look away? This shiny, almost otherworldly bird, a glossy starling, lives normally in Africa south of the Sahara. Its natural habitat cannot contrast more with what we see on the painting: a grey, exploding, collapsing New York city skyscraper sending dust clouds everywhere. The bird looks either concerned, shocked or fierce. It's already 20 years ago since 9/11 happened and we all felt the extreme implications of that day. I remember the hostility expressed in society against Muslims and all the anti-terrorist laws that were implemented. Also, the speed at which the US started its wars against Afghanistan and Iraq, without time for reflection on what had occurred and what would be an appropriate response. Available, € 1.080,-
